Position Description: The Youth Educator is responsible for co- facilitating weekly Project AIM sessions, working with community partners, providing overall support for teens enrolled in the Project AIM Program and to carry out the mission of the Lower Hudson Valley Perinatal Network and fulfill the work plan and requirements of the Personal Responsibility Education Program (PREP) Initiative contract.

The mission of the LHVPN’s PREP program is to significantly reduce rates of teen pregnancy, existing disparities and conduct activities to ensure access for youth to comprehensive reproductive health care and family planning services in Haverstraw and Spring Valley, Rockland County.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Youth Services Manager:

• Recruit youth participants. • Co-facilitate the Project AIM Program Model with fidelity. • Conduct orientation meetings to parents and community about Project AIM. • Schedule and assist with the planning of special events for youth participants. • Provide “continuing contact” support to designated Project AIM teens (keeping them connected to the program, serving as a liaison with their parent/guardian) through email, phone calls, and personal interaction. • Participate in planning for Project AIM sessions & program evaluation and continual quality improvement activities. • Maintain healthy and appropriate relationships with Project AIM teens, focusing on safety, support, interaction, and engagement.

Qualifications: Skills and Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in health education or health related field or at least 3 years of related experience in comprehensive sexuality education with youth.

• Knowledge of positive youth development principles. • Ability to navigate partnerships in community and school-based settings. • Ability to administer youth programs and experience working with adolescents. • Knowledge of reproductive health, anatomy and physiology, and family planning. • Demonstrated experience in facilitation of discussion and/or teaching classes to youth in varied settings on goal setting, career development and reproductive health topics such as reproductive anatomy, contraceptive methods, STDs, and HIV/AIDS, etc. • Ability to relate to a wide variety of individuals. • Non-judgmental approach and experience working with racially and ethnically diverse groups. • Experience in program implementation, evaluation and reporting. • Demonstrated ability to organize project details and tasks; and to organize and lead community groups. • Good decision making skills. • Excellent classroom management skills. • Highly effective verbal, listening, presentation and written communication skills. • Ability to work in a team environment. • Demonstrated analytical skills and ability to problem solve while minimizing conflict. • Excellent organizational and time and stress management skills. • Strong computer skills including the ability to operate computerized spreadsheet, word-processing, and graphics at a proficient level. • Bilingual in English/Spanish is a requirement.

• Commitment to Project AIM and its effectiveness. • A valid driver’s license and reliable personal transportation is necessary to fulfill job requirements. • Must have schedule flexibility to include occasional early morning, evening, and weekend meetings/activities. • Ability to meet the following physical requirements with or without reasonable accommodation: o Ability to visually supervise youth within the PREP Initiative; o Walk, bend, kneel, and reach; o Lift 20 – 30 pounds; o Conduct both outdoor and indoor activities, in both warm and cold temperatures.

Organization Description: Working together with its partners The Lower Hudson Valley Perinatal Network (LHVPN) advocates for and educates consumers and professionals about maternal, child and family health. LHVPN also mobilizes the community, to eliminate disparities, and improve the health of women, children and families in New York's Lower Hudson Valley, which includes Dutchess, Putnam, Rockland & Westchester counties. The LHVPN was originally organized in 2004 by the Maria Fareri Children's Hospital Regional Perinatal Center with March of Dimes funding. In 2010 the LHVPN became a program of the Children's Health and Research Foundation, Inc.
