Position Description: The Oregon Health Authority, Public Health Division, Oregon State Public Health Laboratory in Hillsboro, OR is recruiting for an industry savvy, laboratory practice and compliance expert with team-focused leadership skills to fill the role of General Microbiology Manager to direct professional staff and highly specialized laboratory testing procedures, to support state and local infectious disease control efforts, and to assure the quality of testing in clinical and environmental laboratories.

What will you do? You will provide administrative and managerial oversight of analytical and specialized testing for infectious diseases and agents of public health interest in the general microbiology section of the Oregon State Public Health Laboratory. You will provide scientific and technical expertise and demonstrate knowledgeable management skills to ensure that the laboratory is in compliance and to plan, coordinate, evaluate, and supervise all technical and operational activities and staff members in the laboratory. You will assure work conforms to standard procedures and related federal and state laws. You will integrate and coordinate laboratory activities with other departments, bureaus, and clients. You will also develop, recommend, and maintain the laboratory budget, authorize expenditures and write specifications for instrumentation.

Qualifications: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Four years (4) of public health or clinical laboratory management experience in a public or private organization which included responsibility for each of the following: a) development of program rules and policies, b) development of long- and short-range goals and plans, c) program evaluation, and d) budget preparation.

OR

Three years of public health or clinical laboratory management experience in a public or private organization which included responsibility for reach of the following: a) development of program rules and policies, b) development of long- and short-range goals and plans, c) program evaluation, and d) budget preparation; AND 45-48 quarter hours (30-32 semester hours of graduate level coursework in management.

Special Qualifications: Under federal law, the incumbent MUST MEET personnel requirements for a technical supervisor (42 CFR 493.1449) performing high complexity testing as defined by 42 CFR 493, Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments of 1988 (CLIA) and the College of American Pathologists (CAP).

This requires a minimum of a bachelor's degree in lab science and four years training or experience in high complexity microbiology with a minimum 6 months in the appropriate subspecialty (microbiology).
