Position Description: Position Overview: Under limited supervision this individual will be responsible for assessing financial needs of new and established MAO clients. This individual will be responsible for identifying, assisting, and enrolling Medical Advocacy and Outreach eligible uninsured clients into appropriate coverage programs, application assistance, and provide follow-up to ensure enrollment, utilization, and retention into coverage programs. This individual will also establish client payment plans and other financial arrangements in regards to copays and deductibles. Establish a strong, solid communication with the Billing Manager and Accounts Receivables Analyst. This position requires access to medical and social records of MAO patients. The Patient Account Specialist is responsible for following all appropriate billing protocols, agency policies, and procedures including HIV confidentiality, HIPAA, and OSHA regulations.

Duties: *Educate MAO’s client population about local, state, and federal insurance programs as well as MAO’s charity care program.

*Screen uninsured clients in an effort to determine if a client is a viable candidate for federal, state, and/or county medical disability assistance.

*Assist clients with setting up financial payment plans to satisfy account balances.

*Collaborate with social workers and clinic staff.

*Keep meticulous records of consent forms, applications, and all necessary paperwork.

*Objectively help clients choose between available health and pharmacy insurance plans.

*Completes household assessment tracking on all MAO clients.

*Assist Social Work Department with tracking of Patient Income information. *Tracks and Completes the Annual Cap form on all Ryan White clients.

*Participate in additional training requirements in an effort to stay abreast of the ever changing rules and regulations associated with the various governmental programs.

*Provide exceptional customer service skills at times. *Be willing to travel if needed to MAO satellite clinics

*Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: *Associates or Bachelor Degree in a health or business related field Or Two to three years of related work experience.

*Experience with health insurance guidelines, programs and plans; Patient and co-pay assistance programs; Medicare and Medicaid health plans, and the ability to find new programs to assist patients.

*Strong confidence discussing and collecting patient payments.

*Analytical skills necessary to calculate patient liability, income status and solve problems related to credit and collection matters.

*Must be proficient in MS Word, MS Excel, and become proficient in electronic medical r record database software.
