Position Description: Helps design and conduct research within a specified field while receiving advanced training from a designated Principal Investigator to enhance professional skills and research independence needed for pursuit of a career in epidemiology, clinical health services research, quality, and outcomes research. The fellow will be involved in designing and evaluating clinical research experiments, including both retrospective cohort studies and prospective randomized controlled trials. Develops new ideas that promotes current research. Prepares and publishes scientific manuscripts under the direction of the Principal Investigator. May teach techniques to others, train, and supervise research staff. Positions are temporary appointments as a research trainee. The initial appointment is for one year, renewal expected if progress is satisfactory and funds are available. Fellows will be encouraged to prepare and submit an F32 grant and will receive training in grant writing. Appointments cannot exceed five years. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A doctoral degree or equivalent (Ph.D., M.D., ScD., D.V.M., DDS etc) in an appropriate field (epidemiology, biostatistics, health services research, etc). Excellent scientific writing ability and strong oral communication skills. The ability to work effectively and collegially with colleagues. Additional qualifications as specified by the Principal Investigator.

Qualifications: Excellent writing skills, excellent data analytic skills (e.g. SAS, R, SQL) and program management skills. Applicants must have a PhD or equivalent degree in a research program, such as public health, statistics, epidemiology, health services research, or a related field. The candidate must be self-motivated, productive, and able to work in a collaborative, multidisciplinary team. The ideal candidate would have excellent analytic skills, have sufficient statistical programming experience, and be an excellent writer with proof of past productivity (e.g. peer-reviewed manuscripts). Must be a U.S. citizen, non-citizen national or permanent resident and be committed to the program full time for at least one year. Minority applicants are encouraged to apply.

Organization Description: The Department of Surgery is accepting applications for a postdoctoral fellowship position in health services and outcomes research that will use applied epidemiology skills. This fellowship provides formal and informal training in methods and practical experience utilized in health services, outcomes, quality, and clinical effectiveness research. The post- doctoral fellow would have access to many opportunities to engage with faculty within Emory School of Medicine (departments of surgery and medicine) and Rollins School of Public Health (epidemiology, health policy, and behavioral sciences and health education). Numerous opportunities exist for the fellow to participate in research using primary and secondary data, manuscript preparation and writing, and grant writing in a collaborative environment. Opportunities exist for the fellow to take formal coursework in the second year, and many opportunities exist for the fellow to develop skills necessary for becoming an independent investigator.
