Position Description: Responsibilities:

The incumbent will perform engineering duties related to environmental quality programs such as public drinking water protection; indoor air pollution, water or air pollution control; and evaluate hazardous waste sites and locations affected by pollution control initiatives for compliance. Specific duties will include: developing Review Comment Letters for water infrastructure projects to send to professional engineers hired by municipalities; working with engineering consultants, state, and local agencies to assist with the development and successful financing and construction of projects; assisting with solving treatment and/or water quality issues at public water systems; conducting an inspection for both compliance with the approved plans and for required aspects of the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund (DWSRF); and providing technical guidance to municipalities, local health departments and public water systems with respect the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund, Water Infrastructure Improvement Act Grant Program, and State Sanitary Code requirements. Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications:

Successful completion of a National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination and one year of experience under the direct supervision of a Professional Engineer.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with the design aspects of public water systems. Working knowledge related to the NY State Environmental Quality Review Act. Ability to work independently and complete tasks with minimal supervision. Ability to work in a fast paced environment. Excellent communication skills along with the ability to provide presentations explaining engineering and programmatic details in layperson’s terms to local elected officials and other state and federal agencies. Excellent technical writing skills. Proficient in the advanced uses of Microsoft Excel, and generally proficient in using data management software.
