Position Description: Under the general supervision of the AIDS/HIV Section Chief, the Research Analyst Advanced Supervisor is responsible for the leadership, planning, development, direction, management and supervision of the HIV/STD/HCV Surveillance Unit, which encompasses statewide surveillance systems for HIV and AIDS, STDs (sexually transmitted diseases including syphilis, gonorrhea and chlamydia infections) and hepatitis C virus (HCV). Primary responsibilities include directing and guiding the surveillance, reporting and epidemiologic analysis of data regarding these diseases in Wisconsin. Among the surveillance systems within the Bureau of Communicable Diseases, the STD surveillance system has the largest number of case reports, HCV is the most prevalent blood borne infection and HIV is the most complex CDC sponsored surveillance system. The information, interpretation and analyses generated by this position inform decisions of public health planners, administrators, health care providers and the public.

The HIV/STD/HCV Surveillance Unit Supervisor serves as the principal investigator and leads the design, development and implementation of HIV, STD and HCV surveillance systems to systematically collect, analyze, interpret and disseminate data to characterize the trends in these infections, detect active clusters of transmission and inform implementation of public health interventions and evaluate public health response. Supervisory responsibilities encompass supervising, managing, and directing HIV/STD/HCV Surveillance Unit staff which includes research analysts, epidemiologists and office associates. Other duties are administrative, fiscal, liaison and reporting activities of these programs, including activities associated with securing and implementing funding that supports the programs.
