Compensation: Salary based on education and experience with a minimum starting rate of $9,915 per month.
Position Description: This position will serve as the Deputy Medical Director of the HIV/STD/Viral Hepatitis Section. This position will oversee statewide public health initiatives related to HIV prevention and treatment in Tennessee. This position will utilize data to guide program and policy development, and will provide clinical and programmatic oversight for the implementation of all related prevention and treatment activities. This position is in the Physician job class, requires advanced management and leadership skills, and is an executive service position.

Job responsibilities include: • Utilize data to assess the public health burden and consequences of HIV infections as well as prevention opportunities in Tennessee; • Design, implement, and evaluate public health programs to reduce new HIV infections, and the morbidity and mortality related to existing HIV infections in Tennessee; • Work closely with local health departments, governmental agencies, academic and community-based providers to augment and improve HIV prevention and treatment capacity throughout Tennessee; • Seek and oversee the preparation of state and federal funding applications; • Conduct investigations of HIV outbreaks; • Serve as a liaison between the HIV prevention and treatment programs and other state, federal, local, and community-based agencies.

This position is in the Division of Communicable and Environmental Diseases and Emergency Preparedness (CEDEP), HIV/STD/Viral Hepatitis Program. CEDEP includes a large and diverse group of physicians, epidemiologists, subject matter experts, and support services in a wide range of programs.

This is an executive service position requiring some travel, valid driver’s license and the availability to respond to emergencies.

Qualifications: Desired Qualifications: • M.D. with U.S. medical license and work experience in public health; • Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS) graduate; • Experience in the field of HIV, STD, Viral Hepatitis, or infectious disease; • Five or more years of full-time supervisory work; • Experience preparing grant applications and manuscripts for scientific publication; and • Strong oral and written communication, team building, program management and evaluation, decision making, leadership and computer skills.

Candidates must be eligible to work in the U.S. Degrees must be from an accredited college or university. A transcript evaluation is required for degrees earned outside of the United States.
