Position Description: The Epidemiologist 1 will support the HIV, STD, and Viral Hepatitis surveillance programs by supporting the analysis, reporting, and dissemination of HIV surveillance data. The Epidemiologist 1 will also serve as the data manager for the National HIV Behavioral Surveillance Memphis (NHBS) project. This position is based in Nashville, TN and housed within the HIV Surveillance and Epidemiology Program, in the Communicable and Environmental Diseases and Emergency Preparedness (CEDEP) Division, reporting to the HIV Epidemiology and Special Projects Team Lead.

Candidates for this position should be detail-oriented, organized, able to multitask and prioritize, confident in managing projects, and able to self-direct on tasks. Strong oral and written communication skills, a positive attitude, and the desire to collaborate with others are important. Experience analyzing surveillance data for communicable diseases or complex datasets is preferred. Additionally, interested candidates should demonstrate critical and systems thinking to solve problems and innovate. This position may require some in-state and out of state travel.

Job responsibilities include: • Supporting the development and implementation of data dissemination products for HIV, STD, and Viral Hepatitis programs, including public-facing interactive data dashboards, annual epidemiologic profiles, and fact sheets • Responding to HIV-related data requests for internal and external stakeholders • Cross-training with HIV core surveillance, HIV prevention, and Ryan White program epidemiologists • Collaborating on analyses and reporting for STD and Viral Hepatitis Programs • Assist NHBS ethnographer with data analysis during formative assessment phase • Supporting programmatic data collection for the NHBS project • Ensuring data quality of NHBS data, including training and evaluation of NHBS project interviewers and conducting routine data quality assurance checks • Cleaning, analyzing, and reporting NHBS data to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) within established deadlines • Preparing and delivering data presentations to local, state, and national stakeholders • Contributing to grant narratives and progress reports • Collaborating on abstracts and/or manuscripts

Qualifications: Education and Experience: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master's degree in epidemiology, public health, biostatistics, statistics or health informatics.

OR:

Education and Experience: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master's degree in a health science, biomedical science or environmental science field with experience equivalent to two years' work experience in epidemiology.

Desired Qualifications: • At least two years of work experience in applied epidemiology, public health surveillance, or health analytics • Communicable disease surveillance or epidemiology experience at a local or state public health department • Familiarity with HIV, STD, and/or viral hepatitis prevention and surveillance • Experience working on federal grants • Proficiency with analytic and data visualization software such as SAS, R, and/or Tableau • Strong written and verbal communication skills • Ability to uphold data integrity and confidentiality standards set by CDC and TDH

Degrees must be from an accredited college or university. A transcript evaluation is required for degrees earned outside of the United States.

Must be eligible to work in the U.S.
