Position Description: This postdoctoral fellow will join Infectious Disease Epidemiology Analytic Studies (IDEAS) group led by Dr. Eli Rosenberg that is conducting quantitative studies of HIV, STI, and viral hepatitis to inform public health action, within the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics. The successful candidate will work closely with Dr. Eli Rosenberg and colleagues at PRISM Health at Emory University, University of Washington, and Johns Hopkins University on a CDC-funded Cooperative Agreement to create and adapt models to improve public health decision-making and effectiveness across these disease areas (www.emorycamp.org).

The initial focus of this position will be to support the development of scientific static, dynamic, and/or agent-based models related to adolescent sexual health, with HIV, STI, and pregnancy outcomes, working in collaboration with the CDC Division of Adolescent and School Health. Additional projects include surveillance and economic models of viral hepatitis in collaboration with the CDC Division of Viral Hepatitis. The successful candidate would be engaged throughout the project lifecycle, including conceptualization, model parameter estimation, model building, and manuscript writing. This candidate should be knowledgeable and excited about these issues, very creative, and have a high degree of analytical and technical savvy.

This position will be primarily supported for two years through a CDC cooperative agreement, though funding availability will be re-assessed annually.

Qualifications: Minimum: A doctoral degree or equivalent (Ph.D., M.D., ScD.) in epidemiology, biostatistics, sociology, biological anthropology or a related field. Excellent scientific writing ability and strong oral communication skills. The ability to work effectively and collegially with colleagues.

Preferred: The successful candidate will ideally have prior experience in the fields of HIV, STI, adolescent sexual heath, and/or surveillance data. Strong quantitative epidemiologic, biostatistical and/or health economic skills, familiarity with R, and writing skills are desired. Infectious disease or economic modeling experience is desirable.

Organization Description: The School of Public Health is a unique partnership between the New York State Department of Health and the University at Albany and is a hub of both cutting-edge research and practice-based experience. Situated in a scenic and central location in the Northeast, the School of Public is entering an exciting growth phase for HIV/STI research through the recruitment of new faculty members, the selection of Dr. David Holtgrave as Dean, and new collaborations with the NYS DOH AIDS Institute. Mentorship is a core feature of this fellowship opportunity and support will be given to the successful applicant to develop their own line of research inquiry and funding in this environment.
