Position Description: This Senior Research Support Specialist will join the Infectious Disease Epidemiology Analytic Studies (IDEAS) group led by Dr. Eli Rosenberg that is conducting quantitative studies of HIV, STI, and viral hepatitis to inform public health action, within the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics. The successful candidate will work closely with IDEAS members and colleagues in PRISM Health at Emory University and University of Washington on a CDC-funded Cooperative Agreement to create and adapt models to improve public health decision-making and effectiveness across these disease areas.

The initial focus of this position will be to support the development of scientific static, dynamic, and agent-based models related to adolescent sexual health, with HIV, STI, and pregnancy outcomes, working in collaboration with the CDC Division of Adolescent and School Health. The successful candidate would be engaged throughout the project lifecycle, including conceptualization, model parameter estimation, model building, and manuscript writing. This candidate should be knowledgeable and excited about these issues, very creative, and have a high degree of analytical and technical savvy.

Qualifications: Minimum: A master’s degree or equivalent (MS, MPH) in epidemiology, biostatistics, sociology, biological anthropology or a related field, from a college or university accredited by the U.S Dept. of Education or an internationally recognized accrediting organization. Excellent scientific writing ability and strong oral communication skills. The ability to work effectively and collegially with colleagues. Candidates must address their ability to work in a culturally diverse environment.

Preferred: The successful candidate will ideally have prior experience in the fields of HIV, STI, adolescent sexual heath, and/or surveillance data. Strong quantitative epidemiologic, biostatistical and/or health economic skills, familiarity with R, and writing skills are desired. Infectious disease or economic modeling experience is desirable.
