Position Description: This position serves as the Chief of Center for Injury Epidemiology, in the Office of Environmental, Occupational, and Injury Epidemiology, in the Environmental Health Bureau (EHB). This is a senior level management position that requires highly skilled data expertise and program administration. Key responsibilities include managing the development, implementation and evaluation of surveillance activities in the areas of injury and violence and epidemiologic support for the EHB. The Center Chief directs epidemiological analyses, development of reports, and reviews final products and presentations. This person conducts the management of grants in collaboration with the EHB Director. The Chief leads contributions for Bureau-wide projects and products including development of reports, policies and programs related to injuries, the Maryland Violent Death Reporting System, and the State Unintentional Opioid Death Reporting System data. This position supervises 4-6 staff, including full and part time data abstractors, who are primarily responsible for the various tasks and deliverables related to the Maryland Violent Death Reporting System.

Qualifications: Preferred Qualifications:

The successful applicant will have over 3 years of experience with injury surveillance and data, SAS, and supervision. Applicant should be comfortable with violent subject matter.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: A Master’s degree in the field of Public Health from an accredited college or university with a minimum of three graduate courses in Epidemiology and one graduate course in Biostatistics. A copy of your graduate transcripts must accompany your application. Unofficial transcripts are acceptable.

Experience: Three years of experience as an epidemiologist subsequent to receipt of the Master’s degree.

Note:

1. Candidates may substitute a Doctoral degree in the field of Public Health from an accredited college or university with a minimum of six graduate courses in Epidemiology and three graduate courses in Biostatistics for the required education and experience. A copy of your graduate transcripts must accompany your application.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Health Care Science classifications or Clinical Lab, Medical Scientists, or Bio Medical Lab Officer specialty codes in the health research field of work on a year-for- year basis for the required experience and education.
