Position Description: The Department of Epidemiology at Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health in New York City invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Scientist with interest in nutrition, metabolism and cancer epidemiology, early detection and risk assessment, and pooled analysis. The fellow will join a research team with active NIH funded projects investigating the role of epigenetics and ovarian cancer risk, early detection and pancreatic cancer risk, clinical risk assessment, and examining modifiable factors such as nutrition and anthropometry with cancer risk. The research conducted includes clinical and population-based studies with extensive epidemiologic and clinical data. Biospecimen data are also available for subsets of these studies.

The fellow is expected to increase his/her methodological and substantive knowledge of studies of ovarian and pancreatic cancer prevention, build skills for developing and implementing research studies, and have opportunities to lead and/or co-author manuscript publications. S/he will perform epidemiologic research, including developing research protocols, designing, conducting and interpreting studies, performing data analyses, preparing manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed journals, delivering presentations at scientific meetings, assisting in the development of grant proposals, and providing other research and methodological support for existing and ongoing studies. Opportunities to develop and write funding proposals for pilot and/or ancillary studies within larger ongoing studies are also available. The position offers up to two years of postdoctoral fellowship with compensation commensurate with experience, excellent benefits package and funds for travel to professional conferences and meetings. Individuals with the following characteristics will be competitive for the position: strong motivation and commitment to a career in cancer research, excellent communication and quantitative skills, ability to conduct self-directed and collaborative research.

Qualifications: PhD, DrPH or other doctoral degree in epidemiology or other public health discipline, population health, biostatistics, or a closely related field. Candidates with prior postdoctoral training are also eligible to apply.
