IHRC, Inc. provides scientific, information management and administrative program support to various Centers, Institutes and Offices of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) under several contracts.  The successful candidate will be a full-time employee of IHRC, Inc. and will be assigned to the Respiratory Diseases Branch (RDB), Division of Bacterial Diseases (DBD), National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases (NCIRD), at the CDC, 1600 Clifton Road, Atlanta, GA, to provide scientific and technical support for the Active Bacterial Core (ABC).  

The Data Manager II will provide data management support and technical expertise for upgrading the Active Bacterial Core surveillance (ABCs) Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS) analysis system, data management, and concatenating ABCs epidemiological and laboratory data.


  • Develop a SQL database infrastructure incorporating raw WGS data, analysis output, and public accession identification
  • Develop a SQL database web interface allowing basic query, retrieve, and analysis of the WGS data
  • Facilitate the transfer of WGS data to public database
  • Conduct data quality checks of laboratory data as needed
  • Manage and reformat WGS analysis outputs
  • Communicate ABCs laboratory data to the epidemiology section
  • Develop tools for generating summary report of WGS analysis outputs



Education and Experience:

  • Advanced degree in statistics, mathematics, natural science, or a field related to the responsibilities of the position.  


  • Extensive experience working with SQL and developing database infrastructure
  • Extensive experience developing SQL database web interfaces that allow basic queries
  • Experience working with statistical software such as SAS, Stata, or similar software
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to efficiently organize multiple priorities
  • Documentation of daily work with good laboratory practice compliance
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining project timeline
  • Ability to work and build coalitions with partners involved, and develop strategies for effectively conveying information to partners
  • Ability to work independently and yet to maintain the flexibility to respond to additional requests
  • Skills and experience writing project reports, research protocols and manuscripts  


  • Experience working with outbreak surveillance and/or laboratory data
  • Understanding of the genetics of bacterial antimicrobial resistance
  • Experience developing mechanisms by which stakeholders can share data based on established policy

Language Skills:

  • The candidate must possess excellent oral and written communication skills in English   


  • Must be United States citizen or permanent resident or have authorization for employment in the United States
