Position Description: GHHR is seeking an Associate Program Officer to provide technical, programmatic and administrative support for multi- country maternal health projects focused on reducing maternal mortality and morbidity due to postpartum hemorrhage in resource- limited settings (RLS). The Associate Program Officer will be responsible for working collaboratively with technical and/or operational staff to assist with the development and execution of project work plans, lead the design, implementation and reporting of project activities, manage complex stakeholder relationships, write/submit grant proposals and help with other program/grant management tasks as required. He/she will work closely with other members of the GHHR team to develop, refine and implement country engagement strategies for technical assistance for scaling maternal health interventions in RLS.

The Associate Program Officer will report to the Division Chief and the Director of Operations and play a key role in the execution and implementation of the GHHR mission and in supporting the GHHR team/collaborators around the world. This is a full-time position based in Boston with international travel.

Primary Responsibilities: • Assist in the management of the division’s complex maternal health portfolio and oversee program execution efforts in multiple countries • Write official country-specific reports and debriefs for donors, partners, national ministries of health, and other audiences • Support development of a dynamic technical assistance strategy for scaling up maternal health interventions • Support management/administration of existing and future grants under this portfolio including timely submission of written progress reports/deliverables • Travel internationally to support execution of program activities and meet with key stakeholders • Provide technical and administrative support, including preparing technical and financial grant reports, participating in meetings/conferences/workshops, and in collaboration with GHHR management identifying and hiring consultants/interns to support GHHR projects • Assist with developing and preparing health provider training materials/tools and support in-country trainings on maternal health interventions; help improve existing training materials and tools for improved effectiveness and sustainability • Work with the Division Chief and Director of Operations to ensure proper communication and alignment of work plans, key time-critical implementation schedules and provide regular feedback on opportunities, emerging challenges, security issues or other programmatic concerns. Act as a liaison between in- country staff and the Boston-based GHHR management team. • Assist in the development and submission of complex grants and funding proposals on behalf of the Division • Coordinate logistics for meetings/conference events and prepare communication materials • Proactive identification of emerging opportunities aligned with GHHR programs and overall strategy • Further develop new and existing relationships with donors, collaborators, in-country partners, and key stakeholders, including senior level individuals • Assist with other programmatic, operational and administrative tasks as assigned

Qualifications: • Advanced degree in public health, social sciences, international development or health-related field with 5+ years of global health experience • 4+ years of program management experience • Demonstrated ability to organize and manage complex international global health projects • Previous experience in stakeholder analysis and engagement • Demonstrated ability of strategically working with a diverse range of established in-country partners, and identification of new partners • Demonstrated ability to expertly navigate the global health landscape, including senior members of established and respected academic, humanitarian, and donor institutions, such as UNICEF, WHO, Gates Foundation, etc. • Experience in developing and implementing strategic work plans in a highly collaborative fashion • Prior grant management and reporting experience required • Excellent written and oral communication skills for a diverse range of audiences • Prior experience in maternal health preferred • Ability to take the initiative, working both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team • Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work cross- culturally with people from diverse backgrounds • Flexibility and ability to multitask, prioritize effectively and coordinate multiple responsibilities; proven ability to handle competing priorities and work well under pressure • Prior administrative and budgeting/financial reporting experience preferred • Prior experience working and/or living in developing countries/RLS strongly preferred • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational/time management skills • Willingness and flexibility to take on unanticipated tasks which may include work outside of normal business hours • Ability to travel nationally and internationally • Strong proficiency in MS Office • Fluency in English language required; proficiency in other languages a plus
