Position Description: Entry-level Tenure Track faculty member to start August 2018 in Health and Exercise Sciences to provide classroom instruction in lower and upper division curriculum; to fulfill additional faculty duties including conducting research appropriate to the teacher-scholar model, academic advising, mentoring of students in research and other experiences; and to provide service to the University and community. This position requires a Ph.D. in Health Education or equivalent doctoral degree in a closely related field; ABD (with Masters in specified field) will be considered with Ph.D. completion scheduled by December 2018.

Qualifications: Applicants will be evaluated on: academic qualifications; professional certifications (candidate must be CHES- eligible; CHES or MCHES preferred); evidence of, or demonstrated potential for, successful college level teaching in courses related to the Areas of Responsibility of the Certified Health Education Specialist; evidence of, or demonstrated potential for, scholarly activity with emphasis on the use of candidates’ scholarship to inform their teaching; previous experience, or demonstrated potential for, mentoring undergraduate research students; evidence of, or demonstrated potential for, encouraging and mentoring students in transformative learning experiences such as undergraduate research, service learning, and internships; compatibility with the department’s needs; complementing existing faculty strengths in terms of class coverage; evidence of commitment to liberal arts education as a teacher- scholar, with undergraduate student development and accomplishment as the highest priority; evidence of, or demonstrated potential for, developing critical thinking and problem solving skills in undergraduates; interest and background in interdisciplinary and/or cross-disciplinary teaching, scholarship, and service; and evidence of strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

Organization Description: Program: The Department of Health & Exercise Sciences is part of the School of Health Sciences & Education at Truman State University. The department has 18 full-time faculty members and approximately 700 undergraduate majors. The department also supports Truman’s Liberal Studies Program.
