Position Description: Fully accredited as a school by the Council on Education of Public Health, Temple University’s College of Public Health is a multidisciplinary academic center devoted to an innovative educational and research environment that brings a transdisciplinary perspective to health, wellness and social welfare. We are seeking applicants for instructional faculty to join a growing academic unit.

Position and Qualifications. We have openings for enthusiastic instructors to teach undergraduate-level courses in biostatistics and epidemiology as well as graduate-level courses in epidemiology and applied fieldwork for our MPH programs. A doctorate in biostatistics, epidemiology, or relevant discipline is required. PhD candidates who will complete their degree prior to fall semester 2018 may be considered. Rank is open with faculty hired at the rank of assistant, associate or full professor on the nontenure instructional track. Additional teaching opportunities may be available in a specific subject area at the graduate level. Because the department offers courses for students in multiple disciplines (e.g., nursing, kinesiology), successful candidates should be skilled in teaching quantitative courses to students with a range of aptitude and interest. Online teaching experience is highly desirable. We value diversity and seek individuals committed to inclusive practices in education.

The Department. The Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics has 8 full- time faculty members who conduct research in several areas, such as behavioral and chronic disease epidemiology, cancer prevention and control, causal inference, obesity prevention, and water-related diseases. The Department enrolls more than 165 students with diverse backgrounds and offers a PhD in Epidemiology and MPH degrees in Epidemiology, Applied Biostatistics, and Environmental Health, and MS degrees in Epidemiology and Clinical and Translational Medicine. The Department contributes to the College’s nationally recognized BS in Public Health.

The College. Devoted to a transdisciplinary environment for academic programming and research, the College of Public Health, a CEPH-accredited school of public health, is a constellation of 9 academic units of public health, health profession and social work disciplines, enrolling 4,600 students in 8 undergraduate and 28 graduate degree programs. The College has seen remarkable growth and organizational expansion in programs, research profile, and interdisciplinary collaboration. The College’s research focuses on social, behavioral, and environmental inquiries, medical/health interventions, and basic science and is sponsored by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Science Foundation (NSF), and other major funders.

The University. Temple is an urban, research-intensive Carnegie R1 university located in historic and culturally rich Philadelphia, the nation’s 6th largest city. The city was ranked 3rd by the New York Times as a world tourist destination. The National Science Foundation ranks Temple among the top 100 universities in the country for research expenditures. Temple is the 6th largest provider of professional education in the nation and includes Schools of Medicine, Pharmacy, Podiatry, Law, and Dentistry in addition to research centers including the NCI- designated Fox Chase Cancer Center and CPH’s Center for Obesity Research and Education.

To Apply. Applicants should send a letter of interest, curriculum vitae, and a statement of teaching philosophy to chatoya.haile@temple.edu. Review of applications begins immediately and appointment will begin in August 2018.
