Position Description: Working with the Directors, oversees fiscal and contractual matters of all grants and contracts held by the communicable disease group at the Center for Community Health and Prevention, including the New York State Emerging Infections Program and other quality improvement and population-based communicable disease surveillance projects, prevention and efficacy studies, and assessments related to healthcare associated infections. Responsible for all fiscal and contractual matters of all grants and contracts held by the communicable disease group of the Center for Community Health and Prevention.

Leads grant development and management.

Responsible for overall office management of the EIP program including Human Resource functions; recruitment, hiring, training, development of job descriptions and professional development for staff. Prepares and manages budgets and justifications.

Oversees clerical and administrative support; performs annual performance assessments of staff.

Works closely with Lead Research Scientist to assess personnel needs and structure projects.

Supervises up to 14 full time staff depending on project involvement.

Responsible for scientific and administrative oversight of all aspects of multiple related projects including study design and conduct, data base development, management and analysis, and audit protocols. Ensures that all project activities comply with Human Subjects regulations and reporting requirements. Works with project area leaders to ensure all elements of study protocols are carried out, providing necessary support to staff and serving as a liaison to pathology and microbiology labs, state and local health departments, CDC, and other agencies as needed. Writes progress reports for protocols and new project proposals; participates in conference calls and CDC-based meetings for assigned EIP projects. Provides technical support to staff for grant summary and application processes.

Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and 5 years relevant experience including at least 2 years at a managerial level; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Prefer Masters of Public Health and/or PhD in relevant scientific field, comparable educational attainment or clinical degree with research experience. Prefer two to three years’ experience at a managerial and supervisory level with preference for grant management experience and supervision of multidisciplinary teams. Proven ability to lead a team, promote teamwork and efficiency, and provide high level supervision. Able to develop research implementation plans and timelines. Must have excellent communication (verbal and written) and customer service skills. Able to travel locally to visit program partners and available to attend regional and/or national meetings.
