Position Description: A fellowship opportunity is available to support the the Division of Global Health Protection (DGHP), within the Center for Global Health (CGH) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), in Atlanta, Georgia. The fellow will be an integral part of the Center for Global Health, Division of Global Health Protection (DGHP) Policy Team. They will learn the domains of strategy, partnerships, issues management, legislative affairs, policy development, and high level team effort. High priority areas of training will be the CDC the Division of Global Health Protection (DGHP), within the Center for Global Health (CGH) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), in Atlanta, Georgia.

The fellow will be an integral part of the Center for Global Health, Division of Global Health Protection (DGHP) Policy Team. They will learn the domains of strategy, partnerships, issues management, legislative affairs, policy development, and high level team effort. High priority areas of training will be the CDC’s global health security a activities and Global Health Security Agenda.

The fellow may learn the following activities:

•Researching best practices related to legislative legislative affairs, budget development and just justification, and partner advocacy and translating them into recommendations for DGHP.

•Conducting environmental scans of global health security initiatives and stakeholders to to identify potential new engagements for DGHP.

•Writing reports, abstracts, articles, and policy briefs, creating infographics, and making oral presentations to disseminate DGHP's strategic messages.

•Supporting visits by Ambassadors, Ministers of of Health, and other dignitaries to CDC HQ, as as well as visits by CDC leadership to external events and field visits.

•Keeping up to date with developments in CDC’s global outbreak response activities, responding to queries, and contributing to reports from the CDC.

•Assisting with the development and maintenance of of policy initiatives to advance the the mission of the organization.

•Helping with the development of visible and influential statements relating to program policy, goals, and direction of the organization.

•Assisting with the dissemination, and reporting on new budget initiatives.

•Assisting with the coordination with other offices, divisions, and centers of CDC to promote synergy and alignment of efforts.

**Desired Start Date: May 15, 2018**

This program, administered by ORAU through its contract with the U.S. Department of Energy to manage the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education, was established through an interagency agreement between DOE and CDC. The initial appointment is for one year, but may be renewed upon recommendation of CDC contingent on the availability of funds. The participant will receive a monthly stipend commensurate with educational level and experience. Proof of health insurance is required for participation in this program. The appointment is full-time at CDC in the Atlanta, Georgia, area. Participants do not become employees of CDC, DOE or the program administrator, and there are no employment- related benefits.

Qualifications: •Bachelor's or higher degree with major study in an academic field related to the health sciences, social sciences, or allied sciences sciences

•Master’s degree in public health, public policy, economics or a social science preferred

•Epidemiological analytical skills preferred

•Prior experience in the fields of global health, health policy, health economics, strategy, Congressional affairs, or health communications is desired.
