Position Description: The Health Program Specialist II will work in the Enteric Disease Epidemiology program at the Arkansas Department of Health. The Health Program Specialist will be tasked with interviewing all cases of Salmonellosis, Shiga Toxin-producing E. coli (STEC), and Listeriosis with long-form exposure history questionnaires. This position is funded through the OutbreakNet Enhanced project at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) https://www.cdc.gov/foodsafety/outbreaknetenhanc ed/index.html.

Qualifications: The formal education equivalent of a master’s degree in public health, public health administration, public administration or related field; plus one year of experience in health program administration or operations, including six months in a supervisory or leadership capacity. OR The formal education equivalent of a bachelor’s degree in public health, public health administration, public administration or related field; plus two years of experience in health program administration or operations, including six months in a supervisory or leadership capacity. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management. OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.

Hiring Official Preferences: Master's degree in Epidemiology; Experience conducting patient interviews; Knowledge of disease surveillance practices; Knowledge of foodborne disease, food safety, or general infectious disease; Proficient in Microsoft Office; strong analytical skills, and experience using data analysis applications; strong attention to detail and problem solving skills.
