Position Description: The Epidemiologist 1 will serve as the HIV surveillance electronic lab reporting (ELR) and data quality assurance manager for the HIV Epidemiology and Surveillance Program.

Candidates for this position should be detail-oriented, organized, able to multitask and prioritize, confident in managing projects, and able to self-direct on tasks. Strong data management and analysis skills, oral and written communication skills, a positive attitude, and the desire to collaborate with others are important. Experience analyzing surveillance data for communicable diseases or complex datasets is preferred. Additionally, interested candidates should demonstrate critical and systems thinking to solve problems and innovate. This position may require some in-state and out-of-state travel.

Job responsibilities include: • Routinely processing of HIV-related electronic lab reports • Ensuring quality of HIV surveillance data and developing QA processes using HIV surveillance databases (e.g., eHARS, REDCap) • Managing and assisting with the development of REDCap projects • Assisting with HIV and STD surveillance database linkages • Collaborating with other CEDEP programs to conduct statewide laboratory assessment • Working with laboratories/providers and internal informatics team to resolve data quality issues • Providing technical assistance to regional/metro surveillance field staff • Cross-training with HIV prevention and Ryan White program epidemiologists • Collaborating on analyses and reporting for the HIV Epidemiology and Surveillance Program • Cleaning, analyzing, and reporting HIV surveillance data to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) within established deadlines • Preparing and delivering data presentations to local, state, and national stakeholders • Contributing to grant narratives and progress reports • Collaborating on abstracts and/or manuscripts

Desired Qualifications: • At least two years of work experience in applied epidemiology, public health surveillance, or health analytics • Communicable disease surveillance or epidemiology experience at a local or state public health department • Familiarity with HIV, STD, and/or viral hepatitis prevention and surveillance • Experience working with large data sets and data systems • Proficiency with analytic software such as SAS and/or R • Strong written and verbal communication skills • Ability to uphold data integrity and confidentiality standards set by CDC and TDH

Qualifications: Education and Experience: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master's degree in epidemiology, public health, biostatistics, statistics or health informatics.

OR:

Education and Experience: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master's degree in a health science, biomedical science or environmental science field with experience equivalent to two years' work experience in epidemiology.

Degrees must be from an accredited college or university. A transcript evaluation is required for degrees earned outside of the United States. Must be eligible to work in the U.S.
