Position Description: Exempt, non-civil service appointment. This position is responsible for providing technical assistance and support primarily to the Heart Disease and Stroke Program (HDSP) and Diabetes Prevention and Control Program (DPCP). The position also supports the division with chronic disease surveillance, data analysis, grant development and other funding initiatives.

Qualifications: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION: Graduation from an accredited four (4) year college or university with a bachelor’s degree, which included three (3) semester credit hours in statistics (please note, completion of a statistics course as an undergraduate is required). Master’s degree in epidemiology, public health, demography or related field is preferred.

EXPERIENCE: One year of specialized professional work experience conducting research and/or statistical studies which involved planning and designing surveys, modifying and applying research and statistical methods and techniques to the collection and analysis of data; and preparing summaries or reports with data presented in graphic, narrative, or numerical form. Preference will be given to persons with specialized experience in statistics and two and one-half years of professional work experience conducting research and/or statistical studies.

Allowable Substitutions: (a) Successful completion of one (1) year of graduate study [thirty (30) semester hours or forty-five (45) quarter hours] at an accredited college or university which included at least one (1) graduate course in research methods and techniques or in advanced statistics, may be substituted for one (1) year of the specialized experience; or (b) Successful completion of all requirements for the Ph.D. degree in statistics, public health, epidemiology, or related field may be substituted for one (1) year of specialized experience.

LICENSE: Valid State of Hawaii Type III driver’s license is preferred.
