Position Description: PDPH is seeking a fulltime administrative assistant to the DDC Director and its administrative leadership team. This is a rare and valuable opportunity for a young professional to gain real work experience in a busy urban health department that responds to incidents of infectious diseases and outbreaks in Philadelphia.

This position is temporary up to 14 months of employment, continuation is based on funding. It is full time, 7.5 hours per day in the Division of Disease Control offices located at 1101 Market Street, Philadelphia PA 19107. Full benefits are provided with this position.


• Work closely with the Division Director, Contract Coordinator, Health Services Administrator and program management to document meetings, and actions, develop meeting minutes and maintain awareness of deliverables • Develop agendas, organize folders and files, make copies, organize and prepare for meetings • Conduct research on public health topics including communicable diseases, laboratory diagnostics, epidemiological reports, health conditions practices and other relevant factors • Prepare presentations using Microsoft Power Point • Develop organizational charts and diagrams for various disease control subjects using appropriate software • Participate in any exercises and real public health emergencies at the discretion of the Division Director • Participate in project-related conference calls, meetings, and trainings as required • Manage and organize an inventory of supplies for the Division • Other duties as assigned by Division leadership

Qualifications: • A bachelor’s degree in a science oriented field from an accredited college or university with an interest in public health • 1 year work experience • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications • Strong attention to detail, excellent communication and organizational skills, and the ability to organize and present information effectively • Excellent English language skills, including composition and grammar. • Comfort working individually and within a team environment that emphasizes interdisciplinary collaboration • Flexibility, professionalism and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously are highly valued attributes.

Organization Description: The Philadelphia Department of Public Health (PDPH), Division of Disease Control (DDC) provides essential public health services to residents and visitors of Philadelphia that include investigating and controlling infectious diseases and conditions, responding to outbreaks and public health emergencies, providing and tracking immunizations, and delivering clinical services to diagnose and treat sexually transmitted diseases and tuberculosis. To achieve its mission, DDC is organized into 9 program areas that is led by a manager and medical director. Programs include: Acute Communicable Diseases, Bioterrorism and Public Health Preparedness, Epidemiology, Healthcare Associated Infections/Antimicrobial Resistance, Health Center 1 (STD clinic), Hepatitis, Immunizations, Sexually Transmitted Diseases, and Tuberculosis Control.
