We are establishing the Communities Organized to Prevent Arboviruses (COPA) project. This community-based research platform in southern Puerto Rico includes several objectives such as: to establish community engagement to support the implementation of a community-based research platform for arbovirus surveillance and research; to implement a community cohort to annually assess arboviral infection incidence and prevalence; to establish a community surveillance system to assess annual incidence of acute febrile illness and its etiology; to establish entomological surveillance for the identification and quantification of adult and immature mosquito populations; 2) evaluate the feasibility and effectiveness of a combination of interventions to reduce infections with arboviruses ; and 3) establish a surveillance site at a clinical facility to document the incidence and etiology of acute febrile illness. To support this efforts the epidemiology team at the dengue branch has a diverse team of medical doctors, doctors in veterinary medicine, epidemiologists, behavioral scientists and data managers.
