Position Description: The Fairfax County Health Department (FCHD) is recruiting a mid-career epidemiologist to adva advance planning and implementation of popu population health activities in an expanding Divi Division of Epidemiology & Population Heal Health. As the division includes both comm communicable disease and population health foci foci, there will be opportunities to cont contribute across the spectrum of public heal health challenges.

The successful candidate will undertake the fo following key activities to advance po population health •Contribute to development of the population health scope-of-work for FCHD, informed by t the Fairfax County Community Health I Improvement Plan, data on health burden and d disparities, emerging threats, and a availability of resources. The plan will b build on ongoing work related to opioids and t to obesity, nutrition and physical activity. •Conduct surveillance for and monitor the h health status, outcomes and disparities a among the Fairfax County population; i implement complex epidemiological i investigations of chronic disease in the c community to inform public health action; i incorporate analysis of the social d determinants of health and underlying causes f for health behaviors and outcomes and d disseminate results in reports, p presentations and publications. •Provide technical expertise and/or lead in t the design, implementation and evaluation of i interventions to improve population health o outcomes using evaluation results and q quality improvement methods to enhance p program effectiveness. •Develop and implement research on p population health, presenting and publishing r results. •Collaborate with other programs within FCHD i including the Division of Community Health D Development, the Division of Health Services a and the Health In All Policies Coordinator, w with other Fairfax County agencies and with c community organizations to strengthen d disease prevention, analyze policies and r reduce health disparities •Supervise and support Population Health Epidemiology Section professional staff. Fairfax County is the largest health jurisdiction in Virginia and in the National Capital Region including about 1.2 million people; the population is demographically diverse with 30% being foreign born. FCHD's location allows for the development of partnerships with leaders in public health fields at Federal agencies, universities, and non-profits across the National Capital R Region.

Qualifications: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Advanced degree in epidemiology doctorate degree (PhD) plus two years of experience in epidemiology-related work, or master's degree in Public Health (MPH) or Master of Science (MS) with graduate work in epidemiology and/or biostatistics plus five years of experience in epidemiology-related work.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED: Valid driver's license.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Considerable background in population based epidemiology epidemiology of chronic disease and population he population health. Experience in community based program based programs and program management. Supervisory e Supervisory experience. Clear and concise oral and writ oral and written communication skills.
