Position Description: Access Health Africa and World Altering Medicine (WAM) seek a motivated candidate for a unique international development opportunity in Lilongwe, Malawi. The Global Health Fellow (GHF) will be responsible for on the ground operations for the AHA-WAM partnership's medical, surgical, public health, and community development initiatives in central Malawi. The AHA-WAM partnership will expand upon current community-based interventions in a 300,000 person catchment area served by partner hospital, Kabudula Community Hospital. The GHF will map and identify health-related opportunities and needs within the community, coordinate existing initiatives, and collect and monitor data. The GHF will be uniquely positioned within two NGOs to effect change, drive program policy, and improve the health care landscape in Malawi. An ideal candidate will be driven, self- sufficient, and resilient.

Duties and Responsibilities

- Coordinate surgical patients with hospitals and funding partners

- Collect patient information and submit to necessary parties

- Facilitate bi-annual dental/medical delegations with Access Health Africa

- Identify and manage supply chain for essential medicines at partner hospital - Assist Project Coordinator with scholarship program

- Assist with marketing, fundraising, and communications as needed

- Develop social media content and communications material -Manage routine and survey data and produce monitoring reports

- Other tasks based on the interests of the GHF and relevant parties

Qualifications: Preferred Experience

- Bachelor's degree in related field; Master’s degree may substitute for experience

- Experience working or volunteering internationally

- Excellent communication skills - Capacity to work independently and take initiative

- Comfort working as part of a multi-cultural team

- Working knowledge of Microsoft office; Squarespace or web design a plus

- Self-motivated and comfort with remote supervision

- Organizational skills and attention to detail

Organization Description: Access Health Africa was founded in 2000 (formerly World Camp, Inc.) to provide health education, HIV/AIDS trainings, and community development initiatives to communities in Malawi, and has recently begun collaborating with hospitals to provide surgical and dental expertise, consultation, training, and procedures. WAM was founded in 2006 and aims to improve accessibility to education and health care in communities in rural Malawi. The AHA-WAM partnership will expand upon these activities, focusing on community-driven initiatives in a 300,000 person catchment area served by our partner, Kabudula Community Hospital.

This is a one-year contract beginning in July 2018. The position will include a monthly stipend, plus housing and transportation. One round-trip flight to Lilongwe from the U.S. will be provided. Internet and cell service for work purposes will be provided. Multi-entry visa fee will be reimbursed.
