Position Description: The CDC Foundation seeks candidates for a full time Survey Methodologist to provide training and country implementation support to facilitate the planning and deployment of the surveys in low- and middle- income countries (LMICs). This position will build country and partner capacity to design, implement, monitor and evaluate non-communicable disease (NCD) risk factor surveys to support the project. The Survey Methodologist will also support the technical requirements involved in the data collection system implementation in countries. Specifically, this position will support the goals of Resolve to Save Lives’ Cardiovascular Health Initiative through the improvement of surveillance, monitoring and evaluation of hypertension, sodium intake and artificial trans-fats. The survey methodologist will also support the technical requirements involved in the data collection system implementation in countries by facilitating the design, development and implementation of related tools and training resources.

This is an outstanding opportunity to work with the nation’s lead agency charged with protecting the public's health. The Survey Methodologist will be hired by the CDC Foundation and will work directly with CDC at a CDC location. The position will be located in the Center for Global Health (CGH) within the Division of Global Health Protection (DGHP), Global Noncommunicable Disease Branch (GNCDB). Responsibilities • Serves as a consultant and an advisor on international data collection projects utilizing sample survey and studies that encompass a wide range of advanced topics including statistical methods, research, and study design • Serves as a subject matter expert to international health and population agencies, such as World Health Organization, national governments, ministries of health, statistics and education, non-governmental organizations and academic institutions to facilitate the implementation of NCD risk factor surveys • Provides project management support to develop detailed project plans to track progress and use appropriate verification techniques to manage changes in project scope, schedule and costs as well as measure project performance • Serves as technical representative and provides expertise and assistance during the technical missions during survey implementation • Participates in various project workshops, trainings, and orientation meetings • Assists with country pretest trainings and main study implementation trainings • Supports tracking and maintenance of the standard protocol and periodic updates of manuals and guidelines • Contributes information and recommendations to inform strategic planning for the project and determining system improvements • Assists in the writing of comprehensive statistical reports that include analysis, evaluation, and resolutions of NCD prevention, control and management issues • Gives presentations on survey findings and methodological and statistical approaches to working with large data sets at national and international conferences • Prepares statistical reports, graphs, charts, tables, and narrative material to be used in publishing the surveys and results of studies and in giving oral and poster presentations • Perform other duties as assigned that are directly related to this position

Qualifications: • Master’s degree required in survey methodology, sociology, demography, epidemiology, public health, or related field with extensive experience (5-7 years) conducting all aspects of survey planning, design, data collection and analysis • Experience developing sampling frames, management of data collection teams, designing complex population-based samples, management of data entry and quality control procedures, and other relevant experience conducting field work in international settings • Experience in working with complex internal and external organization as well as a demonstrated ability to work with efficiency, diplomacy, flexibility, and as part of a team • Keen attention to detail, and excellent written and verbal communication skills • Strong organization skills, experience providing training, as well as a demonstrated ability to work with efficiency, diplomacy, flexibility, and team-orientation • Demonstrated experience working with international organizations and in public health programs in LMICs is highly desirable • Experience ensuring that valid research findings are disseminated and applied to NCD risk factor surveillance activities • Experience collaborating with analysts and statisticians in international settings to develop joint analyses and publications • Knowledge of demography, statistics, survey research, and sociology in the design and development of research and evaluation studies related to both international and domestic activities • Advanced knowledge of SAS, STATA, SPSS, SUDAAN, and other statistical, sampling, data management and data analysis software • Ability to travel up to 30% internationally
