The position is based in Durham, North Carolina, but may require ~20% international travel annually.

Overview of DGHI

The Duke Global Health Institute (DGHI) was created in 2006 to address health disparities in our local community and worldwide. Recognizing that many global health problems stem from economic, social, environmental, political and health care inequalities, DGHI brings together interdisciplinary teams to solve complex health problems and to train the next generation of global health scholars. More information on its leadership team, board of advisers, financing, and impact is at http://impact.globalhealth.duke.edu/.

Overview of the DGHI Evidence Lab

In 2014, DGHI launched the Evidence Lab (https://globalhealth.duke.edu/evidence- lab) which has its mission is to conduct objective and high-quality evaluations of global health programs, interventions, and technologies in order to provide evidence of impact with the aim of informing policies, programs and/or funding decisions. To achieve this, the Evidence Lab utilizes rigorous research designs paired with cutting-edge methods to collect and analyze data to understand whether health programs are having their intended effect. Our team conducts a range of studies from formative research to assess the feasibility of an innovative health service intervention to randomized controlled trials to test the effectiveness of a health program being taken to scale in a low-resource setting. Key areas of expertise within the Evidence Lab and DGHI more broadly include maternal, adolescent, and child health, mental health, HIV, health systems strengthening, and intervention research. Note that a core principle of the DGHI Evidence Lab is to strengthen the evaluation capacity of our local and project counterparts on collaborative projects.

The Evidence Lab is now seeking a Research Scholar with expertise in mixed methods evaluation research. Working closely with the Director and other Evidence Lab team members, the Research Scholar will lead and/or contribute to currently funded evaluations of maternal and child health interventions being implemented in East and West Africa, contribute to other NIH- funded intervention research in Tanzania, and will also help drive forward the Lab’s research agenda by expanding into new research areas and seeking additional funding opportunities.
