Position Description: Corvus Health, a leading global health systems and health workforce services firm, is hiring a Specialist Pediatric Dermatologist on behalf of its client, a prominent private hospital in Nairobi, Kenya. The hospital and its associated clinics provide international-quality patient-centered care.

The primary responsibility of the Pediatric Dermatologist will be to provide high quality care for children with significant dermatologic disease in outpatient and inpatient settings. Additional responsibilities include improving the dermatology diagnosis and treatment skills of the hospital’s physicians and oterh team members. This position will pursue clinical research and will most likely be able to start the formation of a pediatric dermatology fellowship program, the first in East Africa.

Candidates must be able to commit to one year or two years, with extension of the contract available.

Clinical Duties: • Diagnose and treat pediatric dermatological diseases in outpatient and inpatient settings. Attend a regular pediatric dermatology clinic as well as provide consulting services to pediatric patients in the hospital. Educate patients and their families on their disease and its treatment and maintenance. • Train other physicians and members of the healthcare team to improve their ability to diagnose and treat pediatric dermatology conditions. This includes lecturing, mentoring, and the creation of diagnosis and treatment guidelines and pathways. • Review the existing body of research and literature on pediatric dermatology in East Africa and Africa, identify strengths and gaps and develop a research agenda. • Apply for funding for pediatric dermatology clinical research and carry out pediatric dermatology clinical research and disseminate and publish findings. • Initiate the process of starting a pediatric dermatology fellowship, including liaising with the relevant regulators, determining the appropriate faculty, and designing the curriculum. • Represent the hospital at regional and global dermatology meetings. • As needed, work with national and regional media to educate the public on pediatric dermatology conditions, their prevention, and treatment.

Management and Quality Assurance Duties: • Read current literature, talk with colleagues, and participate in professional organizations or conferences to keep abreast of developments in pediatric dermatology. • Maintain medical and professional knowledge, CME, and clinical licenses. • Supervise and provide performance evaluations for the pediatric dermatology team. • Instruct medical students, interns, and residents in diagnosis and treatment of pediatric dermatological diseases.

Qualifications: • Candidates must have a medical degree (MBBS, MD, DO, etc.) and must have successfully completed a pediatric dermatology fellowship/master’s degree and passed pediatric dermatology licensing exams and must be in good standing with the medical board where he or she is currently practicing. • Must be having at least 2-3 years of experience as a pediatric dermatologist, preferably with 2-3 years experience managing large teams. The ideal candidate would have experience in developing a pediatric dermatology fellowship program. • Excellent soft skills, including communication, interpersonal skills, team- building skills. • Ability to practice patient-centered care and be able to guide pediatric patients and their parents on the treatment and management of dermatologic diseases. • Excellent spoken and written English skills. • Good computer skills, including MS Office tools and preferably experience with electronic medical records.
