Position Description: Role and Responsibilities McKing is seeking multiple Communication Specialists to support federal government public health programs and work on-site at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Duties and responsibilities may include the following:

Product Development • Prepare, refine and share communication products to educate the public and public health community on program efforts • Research, write/rewrite, summarize and edit technical materials • Prepare original text based on technical data provided • Work with stakeholders to develop creative • Consult with CDC program staff on product development, layout and design at the onset of projects • Coordinate efforts of technical artists and illustrators in preparing reports, articles, and books for internal and external distribution. • Coordinate efforts with web developers to publish content on CDC websites

Promotions • Assist in planning, developing, and coordinating promotion of information releases or other communication campaigns • Assist in managing social media content calendar in coordination with other CDC staff • Research program topics, priorities, and audiences and translate into compelling and accurate content that drives social media and web ‘end users’ to take action • Help develop social media content and visuals; monitor and measure the effectiveness across social media platforms

Public Relations • Respond to media and/or CDC-INFO inquiries; coordinate responses and/or interviews with CDC staff as appropriate. • Work with CDC staff to develop and disseminate creative new content and visuals to effectively reach specific target audiences. • Develop communication tools for CDC staff to use in delivering consistent messages about the program’s work and priority issues (e.g., talking points, Q&As, science briefs, fact sheets, presentations, etc.) • Advise CDC staff in preparing for media interviews

Qualifications: Qualifications and Education Requirements • Master’s degree in health-related field or communication, English, or journalism. • 3-5 years of experience in writing and editing both electronic and print publications. • Knowledge of and experience working in public health or health-related field • Training and experience in plain language and clear communications • Creative produce design skills • Candidates must have the ability to learn quickly and meet deadlines as well as be organized and highly detail- oriented. • Excellent written and oral communication skills are a must.
