Position Description: The Public Health Administrator oversees the planning, developing and implementation of public health services. The Administrators supervises four Division Managers, including Health Administration, Public Health Nursing, Environmental Health and Veterinary Public Health. The Public HealthA Administrator must be a strong, analytical and creative leadership professional whom will utilize his/her extensive public health knowledge and experience to create and enhance new programming and services that will serve the needs of the community. In addition, exceptional interpersonal skills, strategic thinking and planning capabilities, knowledge of budgetary principles and practices, excellent supervisory skills and the ability and maturity to establish and maintain effective working relationships within local government, are all necessary to succeed in this position. • Planning, organizing and a administering a comprehensive program of services to the Residents of McHenry County, while providing leadership and direction to the Public Health Department staff. • Develop and recommends the operating budget for the Department on an annual basis; monitors and administers the approved budget. • Develop and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships with other health and social service organizations, media and the community to promote the Department’s vision and mission, sharing public health values goals and priorities. • Identifying and interpreting emerging trends in public health and providing information, analysis and interpretation to stakeholders and community partners. • Successfully develop collaborative relationships with County Administration, Elected Officials, and the other organizations to accomplish goals and objectives of the department

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in public health or a related field is required. Master’s degree in Public Health is strongly preferred. Minimum of 6 years of progressively responsible public health experience in a leadership role is required. Have experience in the oversight of federal and state grant programs. Have experience and ability to work in a complex and highly visible position.
