Location: Washington, DC

Part Time: Part-time internship to start mid-June 2018, approximately 25 hours per week. Hours are flexible, and could include some telework.

Internship Description: The School-Based Heath Alliance (the Alliance) seeks a talented and motivated intern to assist with the 2016-17 National School-Based Health Care Census (“the Census”). The Census is a national survey collected by the Alliance, which captures information about school-based health care (SBHC) programs including demographics, staffing, health services and prevention activities, policies, utilization, and financing. The data is used to track national trends, demonstrate the impact and reach of SBHC programs nationwide, and inform advocacy and expansion efforts. The intern will support various aspects of database clean up, data analysis, reporting, and dissemination. Activities will include updating the database with information collected during data collection, analyzing the final dataset using Excel and statistical packages, supporting the development of the final report, and updating data and resources for the Children’s Health and Education Mapping Tool. This is a great opportunity for students interested in gaining valuable experience in a fast-paced growing nonprofit organization.

We offer a paid internship. The intern will be paid $15/hour.

The intern will be a member of the Research and Evaluation Team and supervised by Nirmita Panchal, our Research and Evaluation Manager.

Responsibilities: The intern will: • Support final database clean up and analysis, using Microsoft Excel and R/SPSS • Analyze census data • Support the development of the final report • Update data and resources for the Children’s Health and Education Mapping Tool • Participate in team meetings and brainstorming sessions

Qualifications: Qualifications: • Pursuing graduate degree or recent graduate in public health, statistics, public policy, nursing, social work, or other related field • Familiarity with a statistical package, preferably R and SPSS • Prefer GPA of 3.0 or higher • An interest in public health, adolescent health, healthcare delivery, social justice, and/or health equity • Excellent oral, written, and communication/presentation skills • Familiarity with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Power Point required • Strong attention to detail • Ability to start mid-June 2018

Organization Description: Organization Description: The Alliance was founded in 1995 and is the national voice for school-based health centers (SBHCs). SBHCs are health centers that provide comprehensive care to predominantly underserved children and adolescents in a setting that is trusted, familiar, and immediately accessible: their school. SBHCs provide care – primary health, behavioral health and counseling, family outreach, and chronic illness management – without concern for the student’s ability to pay. The Alliance advocates for national, state and local policies, programs, and funding to expand and strengthen SBHCs, while also supporting the movement with training and technical assistance.
