Position Description: Johnson County Health & Environment department in Kansas is looking for a qualified candidate to fill the position of an Epidemiologist. The position is located in the Health Services Building at 11875 S Sunset Drive, Suite 300, Olathe, KS 66061. The Epidemiologist provides technical and scientific expertise for programs in the areas of communicable disease, chronic disease and environmental epidemiology. Essential duties include: • Studies types of diseases; monitors and conducts complex analysis to describe the epidemiology of diseases, including data related to health related outbreaks, disease distribution, causes of distribution, risk factors, progress, life cycle, and mode of transmission. • Provides epidemiological statistical and investigational support through the review, analysis, and reporting of data; recommends changes to the content of existing programs, protocols, and policies. • Compiles information and develops training and educational resources; educates and trains healthcare workers, patients, and the public about infectious and chronic diseases and the methods of transmission and prevention; responds to inquiries regarding outbreaks and methods of prevention.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Epidemiology, Public Health, Nursing or related science and one year experience in epidemiology and communicable diseases in a public health or related setting are required. May require KS/MO driver’s license, depending on department or agency. Preferred Job Requirements: Master’s degree in Biology, Epidemiology, Public Health, Nursing or related science and two years of experience in epidemiology and communicable diseases in a public health or related setting are preferred.
