Type: Full-Time
Classification: Epidemiology
Number of Openings: 1
Location: Tucson,  AZ

Position Description: Food safety affects everyone. While food borne illness has largely been studied as acute infections that lead to either complete recovery or mortality, there has been limited research on the morbidity associated with these diseases, particularly related to chronic conditions that may be autoimmune in nature. The Pogreba-Brown laboratory is seeking a post-doc to work on a project funded by the Federal Drug Administration (FDA) on these outcomes. The Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics supports the UA’s diversity and inclusiveness strategic initiatives designed to create an inclusive environment for all faculty, staff, and students. The candidate is expected to support diversity and inclusiveness efforts in the department. The project will involve working on a large scoping review that resulted in the identification of several hundred journal articles. We will be working with partners to develop and publish multiple manuscripts in the area of foodborne diseases and chronic outcomes. We are also working on pilot cohort epidemiologic studies to prospectively follow people diagnosed with these illnesses as well as other smaller projects in this area. The position involves working as part of a team, both internally in the Pogreba-Brown lab, which includes a wide variety of positions, and externally in other departments around the University and as part of the FDA Food Safety Workgroup.

Qualifications: PhD in Epidemiology, Public Health, Food Safety or related degree. If the degree is not in Epidemiology, candidate must have some experience/course work in epidemiology and be familiar with concepts such as epidemiologic study designs, systematic reviews and basic biostatistics methods. Experience with foodborne epidemiology is preferred but not required.
