TRAVEL:  As required to fulfill the responsibilities of the position

IHRC, Inc. provides scientific, information management, management consulting, bioinformatics, and administrative program support to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and other Federal and private sector clients.  The successful candidate will be a full-time employee of IHRC, Inc. and will be assigned to the Division of High-Consequence Pathogens and Pathology (DHCPP), Infectious Diseases Pathology Branch (IDPB), National Center for Emerging and Zoonotic Infectious Diseases (NCEZID), at the CDC, 1600 Clifton Road, Atlanta, GA, to provide scientific and technical support. 

SCOPE OF WORK

The Clinical Epidemiologist will coordinate communications with State, Tribal, Local & Territorial (STLT) Health Departments and other CDC programs, and facilitate data collection, pathologic specimen submission and results reporting on submitted cases.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinate communication between STLT partners, IDPB and other CDC programs

    • Manage inquiries for submission of specimens from clinicians, pathologists, STLT partners and other CDC programs
    • Request appropriate clinical, laboratory and epidemiologic information on case submissions
    • Consult with IDPB pathologists, molecular biologists and epidemiologists in developing response to inquiries
  • Review and organize submitted case information
    • Interpret and synthesize complex clinical, laboratory and epidemiologic information to facilitate optimal case evaluation and investigation
    • Provide guidance to other IDPB staff performing data abstraction and entry
  • Participate in data analysis projects and publications
    • Identify opportunities for and contribute to analytic projects, presentations and publications

Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and experience:

  • Master’s Degree in Public Health from and accredited academic institution
  • 3-5 years experience coordinating with STLT health departments and CDC

Required:  

  • Experience in providing epidemiologic support, including statistical analyses
  • Organizational skills demonstrating high attention to detail and the ability to organize multiple priorities
  • Strong interpersonal skills required for teamwork and interaction with people across CDC and with external partners
  • Understanding of design and implementation of research and epidemiologic studies
  • Knowledge of SAS, SPSS, Stata, or similar statistical software
  • Proficient in writing comprehensive statistical and analytical reports
  • Excellent written and oral communications

Desirable:

  • Experience in conducting research on epidemiology of bacterial/viral diseases
  • Experience with creation of databases and database management
  • Knowledge of database management software, such as Access and/or REDCap

Language Skills:

  • The candidate must possess excellent oral and written communication skills in English
