Position Description: We are seeking 1-2 volunteer interns to assist in the data collection and evaluation of the above-mentioned screening tool field tests. Intern(s) will help collect and analyze quantitative and qualitative data from the field tests to pinpoint key, relevant outcomes and effective protocols and workflows for enterprise. Interns will benefit from mentorship from the Social Determinants Team, a flexible schedule, and the chance to contribute to the health and welfare of their fellow New Yorkers. School credit can be arranged, if applicable. Potential opportunity to participate in presentation/publications, as applicable.

Summer interns will: • Work with our team to determine the research methodology for the qualitative evaluation of the pilot and help draft the questions to be posed to key informants. • Draft diagrams of each pilot site’s workflows and role responsibilities for administering the social screening. • Interview project champions at each site and summarize findings for senior H+H staff. • Collect and document other data and information, as needed.

Fall interns will: • Organize and execute qualitative interviews with additional key informants at pilot sites. • Write report summarizing interviews and key findings for senior H+H staff. • Finalize pilot sites’ workflows and role responsibilities for administering the social screening.

Schedule Interns will work both on-site and at the health care facilities. Summer assignment: 3-5 days/week for ~8 Weeks; Fall assignment: 1-2 days/week for ~8-10 Weeks.

Reporting Interns will work closely with and report to Marian Krauskopf, Senior Director, Social Determinants Team.

Qualifications: • At least a BA degree with relevant focus in public health, public administration, data analysis, program evaluation, or social work • Familiarity with qualitative interview process and analysis methods • Demonstrated, strong writing capabilities • Attention to detail • Strong interpersonal skills • Interns available to work both summer and fall preferred

Organization Description: NYC Health + Hospitals (NYC H+H) is the largest public health care system in the nation. Our health system provides essential services to 1 million New Yorkers every year in more than 70 locations across the city's five boroughs. Within the Office of Population Health, the Social Determinants Team strives to enable NYC H+H to address the concrete social support needs of patients routinely and effectively. Our team is field testing a social needs screening tool as a means to arriving at a universal, system-wide screening tool and approach. The tool identifies social support needs with the highest potential for positive impacts on health: housing, food security, household safety, and legal concerns. The field tests are current in various sites and settings, including adult ambulatory care, pediatrics, and chronic disease clinics.
