Position Description: Responsible for epidemiological assessments of considerable difficulty. Manages data, conducts epidemiological evaluations and studies of communicable and chronic diseases, injuries and other health conditions. Conducts public health surveillance, community health assessment and planning, and program evaluation. Provides expertise to division directors, medical professionals, environmental regulatory personnel, and other department officials.

Qualifications: Typical Duties: • Conducts surveillance activities for diseases and identifies health events. Compiles, codes, categorizes, calculates, tabulates, audits, and verifies information or data. • Participates in the design and evaluation of study protocols and health status questionnaires, sample selections, and analyses. • Drafts reports on epidemiological studies for supervisory review. • Disseminates community data on health problems, risk factors, access to care, health care utilization, and health outcomes, based upon statistical findings, interpretations and data visualizations. • Provides epidemiological support regarding technical issues and health statistics. • Translates or explains what epidemiological information means and how it can be used. • Assists in prioritizing health problems and selection of interventions. • Assesses data to ensure compliance with laws, regulations, or standards. • Assists in preparing assessment of need, methodology, and evaluation for grant proposals.

Minimum Requirements: Master's degree in Epidemiology, public health, biostatistics, statistics, or health informatics from an accredited college or university and at least 1 year of experience in conducting epidemiological studies, surveillance, or community assessment and planning; OR a Master’s degree in a health, biomedical, environmental, or social science field from an accredited college or university and 2 years’ experience conducting epidemiological studies, surveillance, or community assessment and planning. Must be eligible to work in the U.S. Candidates with accreditations earned in a foreign institute are encouraged to apply, however at the present time MPHD is not sponsoring individuals through any of the US Government’s employment-based immigration programs. Preferred Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: • Master’s Degree in Epidemiology + 3-5 years’ applied epidemiology/biostatistics experience. • Experience writing statistical and analytical code in SAS or other statistical software. SAS Certification much preferred. • Experience maintaining databases, program libraries and creating data dictionaries. • Advanced knowledge of statistical methods (e.g., SEM, ordinal regression, spatial analysis, etc.). • Advanced experience in MS Office, Excel, Access. • GIS experience, grant writing and/or grant support experience. • Ability to independently extract, clean and manage data from several administrative, clinical, program and population sources, with limited supervision. • Ability to effectively and efficiently interpret findings to assist technical and non-technical stakeholders. • Ability to collaborate with other epidemiology staff on department-wide data initiatives.
