TRAVEL: Some travel is possible, but not currently anticipated.

IHRC, Inc. provides scientific, information management, management consulting, bioinformatics, and administrative program support to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and other Federal and private sector clients.  The successful candidate will be a full-time employee of IHRC, Inc. and will be assigned to the Division for Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention (DHDSP) in the National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (NCCDPHP) at CDC, 4770 Buford Highway NE, Chamblee Campus, Atlanta, GA 30341.

SCOPE OF WORK

The Scientific Health Communications Specialist will apply scientific knowledge, as well as communications, health marketing, and online media management expertise in assessing the efficiency and effectiveness of communication strategies, practices and procedures of the Program Development and Services Branch (PDSB). You will be providing expertise and support to all PDSB communications efforts and programs, including support of partners via cooperative agreements. 

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Developing health communication messages and materials for print, web, and social media to support high visibility media for DHDSP/PDSB programs.
  • Developing summaries, write-ups, and emails for the Branch's internal and external communication channels.
  • Proactively planning and implementing ongoing communications strategies and approaches to maximize communication opportunities to raise awareness and visibility of Branch initiatives such as: The WISEWOMAN Program; State Public Health Actions to Prevent and Control Diabetes, Heart Disease, Obesity and Associated Risk Factors and Promote School Health and A Comprehensive Approach to Good Health and Wellness in Indian Country to external stakeholders.
  • Working with Branch Leadership to refine and create new messages and presentations to make them up to date with information and technology.
  • Securing document eClearance and supporting communication activities by writing summaries, creating presentations and facilitating meetings.
  • Ensuring the accuracy of health communication content.
  • Evaluating current programs to ensure successful implementation and support of projects across the branch.
  • Participating in weekly and monthly team and branch meetings and provide updates on ongoing health communication projects.

Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

  • Master’s in Public Health (MPH) with emphasis on health communications  with at least three years of experience in a relevant field, or Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field with at least seven years of experience in a relevant field.
  • Relevant experience should include development and management of public health web and print media, social media campaigns, clearance of research publications and media content for public consumption in a public health and/or health care context.
  • Previous experience related to heart disease and stroke prevention strongly preferred.

Language Skills:

  • The candidate must possess excellent oral and written communication skills in English
