Position Description: An opportunity is available in the Be Behavioral and Clinical Surveillance Branch of of the Division of HIV/AIDS Prevention (D (DHAP) within the National Center for HI HIV/AIDS, Viral Hepatitis, STD, and TB Pr Prevention (NCHHSTP) at the Centers for Di Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

The fellowship offers the opportunity to gain experience in public health surveillance, survey questionnaire design, public health informatics and project management. With 22 participating metropolitan project areas throughout the United States, the National HIV Behavioral Surveillance (NHBS) system collects and report data on three populations at increased risk for HIV infection: men who have sex with men, persons who inject drugs, and heterosexuals at increased risk in the United States. NHBS data are used to monitor issues affecting these populations, which include describing racial disparities, reporting HIV prevalence and awareness, exploring the prevalence of HIV-related risk behaviors, such as sex and drug use, and examining access to HIV testing, care and prevention. NHBS collects data through personal interviews and HIV testing and is the only national source of data on HIV-negative populations and HIV negative populations and HIV-positive ind individuals unaware of or not in care for the their infection. This fellowship will focus on on information management and documentation rel related to the NHBS questionnaire and will ass assist with dissemination of NHBS data.

Specific opportunities during the fellowship m may include: - Design and implementation of relational d databases for survey design, evaluation, and m management. - Contribute to design and evaluation of the N NHBS questionnaire. - Assist with coordination of NHBS q questionnaire activities. - Assist with statistical analyses and other a activities to evaluate validity and r reliability of survey data. - Contribute to reports describing survey d design, measurement, and preparation of p priority publications. - Assist with statistical analyses of NHBS d data. - Collaborate with external and internal stakeholders.

Qualifications: A Master's degree or higher in public h health, epidemiology, behavioral science, or o other related field. A doctoral degree is p preferred. - Project management skills necessary. - Strong writing and communication skills n necessary. - Strong data analysis skills required. - Knowledge of developing and helping to c conduct trainings preferred. - Experience with SAS preferred.

Organization Description: This program, administered by ORAU through its contract with the U.S. Department of Energy to manage the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education, was established through an interagency agreement between DOE and CDC. The initial appointment is one year, but may be renewed upon recommendation of CDC contingent on the availability of funds. Participants do not become employees of CDC, DOE or the program administrator, and there are no employment-related benefits.
