Position Description: Purpose: To assist the project’s Principal Investigator in CDC’s Global Immunization Division to plan and conduct research studies and projects focused on the reporting of adverse events following immunization (AEFI) in international, resource-limited settings. These studies and projects are designed for the purpose of identifying, analyzing, and reporting on barriers to reporting adverse events following immunization and making recommendations for interventions to strengthen reporting mechanisms. This position is only one year with the possibility to renew based on funding.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Serves as a member of a multi-disciplinary team of researchers with responsibility for evaluating the barriers to reporting adverse events following immunization in international, resource-limited settings Plans and executes quantitative and qualitative analytic research projects utilizing appropriate methodologies and measures pertinent to the assessment and summarization of barriers to reporting adverse events following immunization Provides technical assistance for the design and field implementation of surveys, protocol development, questionnaire design, ethical review, database management, training of field staff, overseeing field data collection, data entry and cleaning, scientific and statistical data analysis, and report writing Ensures the reliability and consistency of the data while measuring the data limitations; develops procedures and methodology to modify the data and oversees data modifications Provides statistical insight in the analysis, interpretation, and discussion of study results Conducts literature reviews pertinent to the summarization, interpretation, and presentation of data in reports, presentations, and manuscripts Supports the development and writing of project manuals, reports, and peer-review manuscripts, disseminates results of research projects in a wide range of venues and may present results to the scientific community at professional meetings and conferences Supports the planning and implementation of various project workshops, trainings, and orientation meetings Coordinate project activities with governments, partners, and other stakeholders Provide written status updates on objectives, milestones, and outcomes Performs other duties as assigned that are directly related to this position

Qualifications: Qualifications and Skills Necessary:

Master’s degree in epidemiology, public health, or related field Experience working in low- and middle- income countries (LMICs) with ministries of health and UN agencies (e.g. WHO, UNICEF) Strong skills and prior experience in the design and field implementation of surveys, protocol development, questionnaire design, ethical review, database management, training of field staff, overseeing field data collection, data entry and cleaning, scientific and statistical data analysis, and report and manuscript writing Experience with vaccine safety and familiarity with AEFI reporting systems desirable Ability to think critically and analyze findings, as well as recognize emergent situations as they arise Expert skills in the use of computer software and programming, especially packages for statistical analysis (e.g. SPSS, SAS, STATA, R) and knowledge of computing platforms and data file construction Strong interpersonal skills, including demonstrated ability to work with efficiency, diplomacy, flexibility, and provide mentorship and be part of a team Strong communication skills (oral and written) Highly organized with demonstrated skills in working with competing priorities, time and project management and completing tasks under deadlines Ability to handle confidential information in a discreet and professional manner Ability to travel up to 30% internationally
