Position Description: --The Opportunity--

The Southwest (SW) Regional Manager oversees all activities of the Southwest Regional Office including activities associated with the Water Quality, Engineering, Planning, Sanitary Surveys, Compliance and Enforcement, and Data Management (Water Facility Inventory) programs.Responsibilities include assuring appropriate response to drinking water emergency situations and actively participating in regional and statewide policy development; program planning, implementation and evaluation; as well as implementing Drinking Water Regulations in a 12-county area in SW Washington. The SW Regional Manager oversees 17 dedicated professional staff.Working with staff, the SW Regional Manager ensures that public water systems ranging from large municipalities (such as the City of Olympia) to small water systems (including institutional systems such as schools and worksites and transient systems such as restaurants and parks) provide safe and reliable drinking water to the residents of and visitors to the state of Washington.

Qualifications: Our ideal candidate is a mature and motivated leader who listens well to staff, diverse stakeholders, and other partners in health as we build and maintain long-term relationships with those we serve and regulate. A leader who will mentor and empower staff is key as this position oversees all activities of the Southwest Regional Office including activities associated with the Water Quality, Engineering, Planning, Sanitary Surveys, Compliance and Enforcement, and Data Management programs. Success in this position requires a depth of technical knowledge in environmental health, especially drinking water, combined with abilities to: Prioritize, handle, and delegate multiple projects/issues at one time. Work cooperatively and effectively with diverse stakeholders (business, citizens, local, state, and federal governments, tribes).
