Position Description: As the Medical Surge Coordinator, you will oversee the healthcare preparedness and response effort within the Office of Emergency Preparedness and Response and is designated as the preparedness specialist for healthcare and medical surge response. You will provide planning expertise, agency representation, and coordination with internal and external stakeholders regarding healthcare preparedness and response. Additionally, you will manage multiple contracts with organizations directly or indirectly supporting healthcare preparedness and response. The work performed will be guided by the US Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response Hospital Preparedness Program's Healthcare Preparedness Program grant guidance, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Office of Public Health Preparedness Response grant, and the DOH grant application work plans. You will be integral in coordinating the work of the DOH throughout the cooperative agreement period. The mission of the Office of Emergency Preparedness and Response (EPR) is to strengthen all-hazards preparedness capabilities and build strategic partnerships to minimize the health impacts the people of Washington experience resulting from major emergencies and disasters.

What will you be doing? – Duties include

- Oversee the ongoing development, implementation and maintenance of emergency response and coordination plans for healthcare surge events that could occur in Washington State.

- Manage statewide medical surge projects. Support healthcare coalitions in their work to improve sustainability of healthcare preparedness and response work at the regional level.

- Provide state, local, tribal and healthcare technical assistance on the implementation of CDC and ASPR grant deliverables.

- Provide policy guidance to DOH and external partners regarding healthcare planning issues associated with emergency preparedness and response.

- Support annual EPR program grant writing and progress report process for both the CDC and ASPR cooperative agreements.

- Participate as a member of the DOH Incident Management Team, upon request.

- At the discretion of the Secretary of Health and the Chief of Emergency Preparedness and Response, assist in programs or projects supporting the priorities of the agency.

Qualifications: Required Qualifications OPTION 1: A Bachelor's degree or higher with major study in public health, healthcare fields, emergency management or closely related field; AND five (5) or more years of demonstrated experience working in public health or healthcare. OR

OPTION 2: Six (6) or more years demonstrated experience working in public health or healthcare. AND - Completion of National Incident Management System Advanced courses ICS 300 and 400; OR will successfully complete within 24 months of hire date.

- Demonstrated experience in the following: Leading or facilitating group processes. Accurately writing and editing documents for a variety of audiences.

- Effective written, public speaking, and facilitation skills.
