Position Description: The primary purpose of this position is to plan, organize, and direct surveillance, control and prevention activities related to influenza and other respiratory diseases, vaccine-preventable diseases and invasive bacterial infections. This position also participates on a consultative basis to the activities of the Medical Consultation Unit's group working on healthcare- associated infections and participates in backing up epidemiologists on call for the Communicable Disease Branch.

Qualifications: Qualified applicants must document on the application that they possess all of the following:

• Demonstrated knowledge of best practices related to public health services. • Experience with surveillance methodology, outbreak investigations, study design and data analysis. • Experience with public health laws, regulations, and policies. • Demonstrate knowledge of developments in the field of public health and ability to apply improved techniques and procedures in the specialty to which assigned. • Experience establishing and maintaining effective communication and working relationships with the general public, other physicians, and professional and community groups. • Experience preparing and presenting educational materials to professional and community groups.

Professional Credentials Required Licensed to practice medicine in the state of North Carolina, OR Ability to obtain a licensed to practice medicine in the state of North Carolina, during probationary period.

Organization Description: About the Communicable Disease Branch:

The Communicable Disease Branch of the Division of Public Health primarily deals with infectious diseases that are reportable by law to the state health department, as well as a few other communicable diseases of public health significance, such as influenza, norovirus infection and certain healthcare-associated infections.
