Position Description: The CDC Foundation seeks candidates for a full time (40 hours a week) Laboratory Technician position for the daily operations related to the quantification of polychlorinated dioxins and furans (PCDD/F) and other persistent organic pollutants (POPs) in human biological samples. The laboratory technician will be hired by the CDC Foundation and assigned to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Chamblee campus in Atlanta, Georgia. The position will be located at the National Center for Environmental Health within the Contemporary Pesticides and Flame Retardants Laboratory of the Organic Analytical Toxicology Branch. This is an outstanding opportunity to work with the nation’s lead agency charged with protecting the public's health. The CDC Foundation offers a competitive salary and attractive benefits package. This is a CDC Foundation position that will work directly with CDC.

Qualifications: Responsibilities The main duties are: • Perform daily activities related to the measurement of PCDD/F and POPs in human biological samples which includes sample preparation, operation of mass spectrometers and other sophisticated instruments, data processing, and implementation of QC programs • Prepare samples for and/or quantifying PCDD/F and POPs in thousands of serum samples from participants of the U.S. National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) and collaborative epidemiologic studies • Apply extraction and chromatographic methods for the separation and measurement of target analytes in human matrices • Assist, with appropriate supervision, in research and development projects to identify novel biomarkers or to improve method performance • Maintain inventory of laboratory supplies, reagents and small equipment necessary to perform the job • Following laboratory safety protocols and healthy work environment at all times

Qualifications: • Science background supported with a Bachelor`s degree in chemistry, biochemistry or biology • Proven ability to maintain and operate automatic liquid handling robots • Proven ability to compile and analyze analytical chemistry laboratory data • Experience in maintaining laboratory instrumentation • Proven ability to evaluate complex laboratory data, and learning about environmental public health activities • Strong written and verbal communication skills and organizational skills • Proficient use of different computer programs (Microsoft office) • Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated success as a team player • Ability to interact with individuals from a variety of disciplines and backgrounds
