Position Description: The Department of Public Health Sciences in the Division of Biological and Applied Health Sciences at Xavier University of Louisiana (XULA) invites applications for two full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor positions beginning Fall 2019.

Founded in 1925 by Saint Katharine Drexel and the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament, XULA is Catholic and historically Black. Located in New Orleans, the ultimate purpose of the University is to contribute to the promotion of a more just and humane society by preparing its students to assume roles of leadership and service in a global society.

The successful candidates are expected to teach effectively at the undergraduate and graduate levels; advise undergraduate and graduate students; conduct and publish independent and collaborative research; develop proposals for extramural funding; and serve on department, division, college, and university committees.

Qualifications: A Doctoral degree in Public Health, or a closely related field, with an emphasis in community health education, cancer prevention, health equity, nutrition and health, maternal and child health, epidemiology, or health promotion is required. It is highly desirable that the successful candidate will be able to teach courses related to health promotion, determinants of health, nutrition, and program evaluation; or chronic diseases and health conditions, epidemiology, and health policy. Other teaching areas will be determined by program need.

A Master level or Certified Health Education Specialist (MCHES/CHES) certification; health education practice experience; and evidence of successful grant funding are desired. Evidence of on- going research activity and potential to secure external funding to support research and publication is desirable. Applicants must demonstrate a commitment to working with a diverse student population.
