The University of Delaware’s School of Public Policy and Administration (SPPA) invites candidates for a tenure-track position with a primary focus on health policy and the social determinants of health. The successful candidate will have an opportunity for a joint appointment in another social science department, including Sociology and Criminal Justice, and Women and Gender Studies. The candidate would be expected to participate in the Partnership for Healthy Communities, a university-wide initiative to apply the knowledge, skills and energy of the university to address the social determinants of health.
Qualified candidates must have a Ph.D. degree at the time of application, and training in Public Policy Analysis, Public Health, Social Policy, or related fields in the social/behavioral sciences. We also encourage applications from candidates in intellectual areas such as Women and Gender Studies, including an interest in the health impacts of domestic and gender-based violence, and applied Health Sciences, with a focus on health systems and health services. The successful candidate will have a scholarly record appropriate to the academic rank of the appointment that includes publications, an active research agenda, and successful teaching experiences.
The School has been identified as a university priority for growth and development. This enhancement builds upon SPPA’s national standing as a comprehensive school of public affairs that integrates academic excellence with professional practice. The School offers a Master of Public Administration (M.P.A.) in-person and online, a Master of Public Policy (M.P.P.), an M.A. and Ph.D. in Urban Affairs and Public Policy, an M.S. and Ph.D. in Disaster Science and Management, and an M.S. and Ph.D. in Energy and Environmental Policy. Undergraduate degrees are offered in Public Policy, Organizational and Community Leadership, and Energy and Environmental Policy. Candidates will be expected to contribute to multiple SPPA programs.
The Joseph R. Biden Institute is strengthening the School’s role as a driving force in the formation and analysis of consequential domestic policy solutions to some of the nation’s most compelling challenges. In addition to the Biden Institute, the research and public service units affiliated with SPPA include the Center for Applied Demography and Survey Research, the Center for Community Research and Service, the Center for Historic Architecture and Design, the Disaster Research Center, and the Institute for Public Administration.
