Position Description:

IHRC, Inc. provides scientific, information management, management consulting, bioinformatics, and administrative program support to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and other Federal and private sector clients.  The successful candidate will be a full-time employee of IHRC, Inc., and will be assigned to the Mycotic Diseases Branch (MDB), Division of Foodborne, Waterborne, and Environmental Diseases (DFWED), CDC, 1600 Clifton Road, Atlanta, GA to provide health communications support for the Division.

SCOPE OF WORK

The Health Communicator will work with Mycotic Diseases Branch and Division staff to create and maintain information for CDC's fungal diseases website, which serves as a national source of information, CDC recommendations, and treatment guidelines for fungal diseases and outbreak responses.  Additionally, the Health Communicator will develop communication outreach campaigns to promote awareness and earlier diagnosis of neglected fungal diseases in the United States and abroad.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Create materials and health promotion messages on fungal diseases and outbreaks for dissemination through a variety of channels
  • Collaborate with communication specialists in other groups to develop materials on prevention of healthcare-associated fungal infections, including the latest superbug, Candida auris, and other antimicrobial stewardship activities.
  • Create written materials to be disseminated globally to support campaigns to screen for and treat HIV-associated opportunistic infections like cryptococcal meningitis, histoplasmosis, and talaromycosis.  Such materials may be for purposes of informing clinicians, health ministry officials, laboratory directors, and others about screen and treat programs. 

Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

  • MPH or equivalent degree in related field combined with experience in communication science

Required:  

  • At least three years of experience in content and materials development, such as developing one-page fact sheets or brochures, website content, educational materials for consumer audiences, etc.
  • Communications skills involving clear, rapid, and accurate dissemination of information related to work.
  • Experience working on communications campaigns that include multiple components, such as message and materials development, materials dissemination, earned media outreach, digital or social media promotion, partnership development, etc.
  • Strong interpersonal skills required for teamwork and interaction with people across CDC and with external partners.
  • Strong written and oral presentation skills. Demonstrated experience in content development is essential. Ability to write content in plain language.
  • Experience in creating web content.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize competing demands in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong skills with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).

Language Skills:

  • The candidate must possess excellent oral and written communication skills in English
