Position Description: Staff Associate with expertise in SAS programming needed to develop and maintain research databases, and to assist with data analysis in the NeuroCORPS (and Stroke) Division of the Neurology Department at Columbia University in New York.

Responsibilities include:

-Uploading and interpreting large datasets from external projects -Organizing and creating SAS analysis datasets and data dictionaries for investigators and statisticians -Transferring datasets to external sites using secure encryption protocols -Cleaning and editing data -Writing SAS code for various reports needed for study operations, progress reports, and quality assurance checks -Facilitating data sharing agreements with outside institutions -Assisting with preparation of IRB protocol submissions.

An important role will be to define and develop new variables, data tables and data entry screens for a complex, long term epidemiological study, and to update and maintain the pre-existing database's structure and multi-user interface. This requires learning to work with SAS' FSP/FSEDIT features.

The candidate will additionally work with the NOMAS Project Manager on the development and administration of a REDCap database, which is remotely accessed by users at multiple sites. Processing of datasets from other softwares and I-pad based applications is also required.

The candidate will perform some statistical analyses of research data under the guidance of senior statisticians and investigators and will participate in weekly research meetings. Analytic methods will include linear and logistic regression, and longitudinal and survival analysis. Opportunities for manuscript writing and co- authorship may be available.

The data manager will work with the Neuro-IT staff to update annual software licenses, and to insure data are secured in compliance with HIPAA regulations and CU requirements.

Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, or the equivalent in education, training and experience, plus 4 years of related work experience.

Position requires prior experience in SAS programming in a medical or health research setting, as well as in database design and management of large research datasets. Some graduate level training in biostatistics is also required, with a Masters' Degree in Biostatistics or Epidemiology preferred. Must be well-organized, detail oriented, with good written and oral communication skills, and good interpersonal skills. The candidate works closely with investigators, project managers and other members of the research team, but is expected to complete assignments independently.

CU's Human Subjects Protection, HIPAA, and Information Security training must be passed once hired.
