The Antibiotic Stewardship Epidemiologist will work together with a pharmacist to develop and provide education to healthcare facility staff and leadership on how to implement antibiotic stewardship programs (ASP) at various levels of the healthcare continuum. This is a contracted position funded by the multi-year CDC Epidemiology and Laboratory Capacity cooperative agreement. This position will report to the Healthcare Associated Infections and Prevention Program Manager.
The Antibiotic Stewardship Epidemiologist will analyze data to determine gaps in knowledge of ASP in multiple types of healthcare facilities including: outpatient facilities, long term care facilities, ambulatory surgical centers, dialysis facilities, critical access hospitals, and acute care facilities. The position will help to target healthcare facilities that could benefit from ASP education and organize trainings to address the needs with the help of a pharmacy subject matter expert. This position will also assist with running the ASP subcommittee of the Healthcare Associated Infections Advisory Committee and may be asked to assist with healthcare associated outbreaks and exposure and emergency response as needed.
The individual in this role will also assist in writing grants and summary reports, and provide technical advice and assistance to local health departments on ASP, healthcare partners and the public. This role requires reviewing and conducting literature reviews, data analyses as well as developing and evaluating methods of training for health care providers and staff.
The individual in this role will participate in after-hours activities including partner meetings, conferences and emergency response as needed.

– Working with the infectious disease pharmacist to develop educational materials, programs and presentations
– Using data from surveys or NHSN to target facilities
– Coordinating an educational conference with HAI staff and external stakeholders
– Coordinating educational booth at medical and healthcare conferences
– Providing evidence for policy decisions
