IHRC, Inc. provides scientific, information management, management consulting, bioinformatics, and administrative program support to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and other Federal and private sector clients.  The successful candidate will be a part-time employee of IHRC, Inc., and will be assigned to the Parasitic Diseases Branch (PDB), Division of Parasitic Diseases and Malaria (DPDM), Center for Global Health (CGH), at the CDC, 1600 Clifton Road, Atlanta, GA, to provide scientific support. 


The Health Communicator (Part- time) will provide scientific support services to enable the Parasitic Diseases Branch (PDB) to accomplish its program objectives.


  • Create required educational materials to improve healthcare provider understanding of parasitic diseases including NPIs so they can better diagnose and treat patients.
  • Create educational materials to improve patient and community understanding of NPIs and other parasitic diseases designed to teach people what they can do to prevent, treat, and manage these diseases.
  • Develop guidelines and health information materials designed to educate the community about NPIs and other parasitic conditions to assist in protecting people form these health threats.
  • Accelerate efforts to control and eliminate NPIs and other parasitic conditions by improving the effectiveness of tools and approaches for prevention, treatment, diagnosis, or control/elimination.
  • Support analysis of resulting data and information to assist in decision making for future strategies.
  • Work with CDC Grantees to assist them in the development of Health Communications materials for this purpose and to provide technical assistance in the development of materials or ideas designed to increase awareness and understanding of parasitic diseases among physicians and the public.

Specifically, the Health Communicator (Part-time) will support the PDB Health Communications team and Subject Matter Experts as follows:

  • Provide advice, subject matter knowledge, and support in the planning and developing of  communication and marketing materials, strategies, press releases, kits, campaigns, fact sheets, continuing medical education (CME) course work materials and tests, and advocacy documents for parasitic conditions and infections.
  • Write/edit, create, and layout health communication materials, continuing medical education materials, tests, and forms, qualitative surveys, and other related documents.
  • Liaise with subject matter experts (SMEs) and senior leaders across PDB in order to provide  guidance and support in health communications efforts.
  • Develop written materials with effective communication and directed marketing designed for a variety of audiences or a specific audience including professional and lay audiences as well as underserved populations and populations at risk.
  • Serve as health communications and marketing content expert and advisor in the development of materials for programs, projects, or initiatives for various audiences.
  • Provide support for creating, testing, and disseminating science-and audience-based products, tools, and messages (i.e., via written, electronic, and audiovisual formats).
  • Contribute to the development of materials and strategies for state, regional, or national public health communication initiatives.
  • Create materials for Web audience to describe parasitic conditions, prevention, treatment, and guidance on management.
  • Liaise with other CDC communicators, communication staff, SMEs and CDC Grantees on the development of health communications items. This may require occasional local travel between CDC Atlanta campuses.
  • Conduct data analysis on information collected from health communications activities. Provide results and summaries of data analysis in a variety of formats to CDC communications teams as needed.
  • Assist in the preparation of results in the form of reports, presentations, manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals, and other forms of written materials.
  • Provide technical guidance to partners and collaborators in the form of consultation and advice as needed.
  • Participate in conference calls with partners as needed to assist with health communications materials preparation and guide dissemination efforts.



Education and Experience:

  • Master’s in Public Health (MPH) with emphasis on health communications.


  • At least 3 years of experience planning and developing communication and marketing materials, strategies, press releases, kits, campaigns, fact sheets, continuing medical education (CME) course work materials and tests, and advocacy documents for public health.
  • Strong scientific and technical knowledge and experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong writing skills and demonstrated experience in content development are essential.  Ability to write content in plain language.
  • Strong interpersonal skills required for team work and interaction with people across CDC and with external partners.
  • Prior experience in a public health setting.


  • Prior CDC experience strongly preferred.
  • Web design experience formatting deliverables to be used on the web.

Language Skills:

  • The candidate must possess excellent oral and written communication skills in English  


  • Must be United States citizen or permanent resident or have authorization for employment in the United States
