Position Description: The National Surveillance Team within the Enteric Diseases Epidemiology Branch (EDEB) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is seeking applications for a Surveillance Epidemiologist. The epidemiologist will work with the team and others in the Division and Branch to coordinate national surveillance operations for domestic cholera and vibriosis infections and assist with operations for other national enteric disease surveillance systems. Position goals and duties include the following: 1) Manage the national data system for cholera and vibriosis surveillance; 2) Work with state partners on case reporting and day-to-day surveillance questions; 3) Oversee data entry; 4) Conduct data cleaning; 5) Create surveillance reports and respond to other data requests as needed; 6) Develop technical knowledge in domestic cholera and vibriosis infections; 7) Oversee metrics and other initiatives to improve data quality; 8) Coordinate outbreak investigations as needed; 9) Conduct data analysis for scientific presentations and publications; 10) Other tasks as needed for the team and branch. A successful applicant will be detail-oriented, highly organized, and skilled at professional communication with public health partners. The National Surveillance Team conducts surveillance for many nationally notifiable conditions (salmonellosis, shigellosis, campylobacteriosis, Shiga toxin-producing E. coli, typhoid and paratyphoid fever, cholera, vibriosis, listeriosis, and hemolytic uremic syndrome) and is involved in transforming surveillance informatics for these conditions. The surveillance systems are laboratory-based and involve close collaboration with outbreak response and laboratory colleagues.

Qualifications: - Master’s degree in relevant field - Experience: Public health experience (1 year) is required - Demonstrable knowledge of SAS or R programming concepts, or equivalent programming experience - Demonstrable knowledge of database management - Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including Access and Excel - Knowledge of public health informatics a plus - Able to work well independently and as part of a team - Graduated within the last five years - Applicants with a PhD, MD, or other doctoral-level degree are NOT eligible
